In April 2019, in the foyer of the Bucharest National Theater, the lovers of contemporary and art jewelry enjoyed the creations of over 100 designers from 27 countries who exhibited at AUTOR – International Fair of Contemporary and Art Jewelry.
At its eighteenth edition, AUTOR has also chosen this year’s winners for its award series:
AAA (AUTOR Awesome Award) – Andra Lupu for the “Crushed” collection. Crushed is a powerful emotion – inspired by the way we connect, the collection brings together melted silver pieces, organic structures that seem very fragile – at the first glance – and which are a metaphor of our own relationships.
The Athens Jewelry Week, which included free participation in the homonymous event, went to Xiangyin Shi for the “Friends” brooches collection that celebrates and ironizes the virtual world.
The Joya Barcelona Award, which provides the winner with the free participation in the Joya Barcelona Art Jewelry and Objects, one of the most famous events of the jewelry industry, was awarded to Raluca Buzura, the AUTOR focus artist this year. Raluca celebrated 10 years of participation in AUTOR with the collection “SHE”, a metaphor of femininity in all its aspects.
The Assamblage Award – Canan Durukal, a designer from Turkey, who came to Bucharest with the “Veins” collection, made from a raw leather substitute that takes unusual shapes through machining. The team of Assamblage, in partnership with AUTOR, offered Canan the opportunity to participate in a jewelry course of the only private jewelry school in Bucharest.
The Venice Design Week Award, consisting of direct participation in the jewelry section “Meet the Designers” at Venice Design Week, 12-20 October 2019, went to Mona Velciov with the “Migration” collection, a contemporary and art made response to the individual and global challenges, to which we are subjected along with our different types of mobility.
The Public’s Choice Award was won by Mihaela Caravan, whose collection received the most votes from the visitors. “Vulnerability” – the collection was inspired by the feelings we sometimes choose not to feel, to protect us from the discomfort of dealing with them: pain, fear, anger, sadness, anxiety, and worry. But choosing to avoid this discomfort, we avoid, on the contrary, discovering new possibilities in ourselves.
The 19th edition of AUTOR fair will take place in May 2020.
