My work is driven by a deep appreciation for nature’s beauty and a
reflection on its absence in urban environments, highlighting the
destructive impact of development on natural landscapes. I explore the
intersection of metal and glass, embracing the unique effects that arise
from their fusion.
I work with various types of glass and silver, balancing asymmetry with
a mix of organic and geometric forms through an experimental
approach.
The “Symbiotic Facets: Pezizaceae” collection is a series of contemporary jewelry inspired by the Pezizaceae family of fungi, renowned for their ecological significance as decomposers and symbiotic partners within complex ecosystems. This collection reflects the intricate and delicate relationships that sustain life, merging glass structures resembling crystalline formations with silver mushroom insertions that echo the organic yet resilient nature of fungi.
The Pezizaceae family, a diverse group of ascomycete fungi commonly found in soil and decaying matter, plays an essential role in nutrient cycling by breaking down complex organic materials. Furthermore, their mutualistic relationships with various plant species contribute to the development and maintenance of healthy ecosystems by enhancing nutrient availability and promoting soil regeneration.
Through “Symbiotic Facets: Pezizaceae,” I aim to translate the often-unseen beauty and essential functions of these fungi into wearable art. The glass elements represent the purity, fragility, and crystalline aspects of natural environments, while the silver mushroom insertions embody the resilience and interconnectedness of fungal networks. This collection serves as an invitation to consider the significance of fungi in ecological balance and to appreciate the beauty of their unseen yet impactful existence.
