Meet her at the AUTOR 2024 fair on 18 – 19 May at Ghica House University.

South Korean artist Hoyeon Chung is established in Seoul and has a second studio in Illinois. She works insightfully and with spontaneity, mixing metal, her own artwork and a wide variety of other materials to create artistically mixed media jewelry.

Hoyeon Chung (b.1970) studied in metalsmith in South Korea and the United States. During the past two decades, she lived and worked in both countries and exhibited internationally.

Within the past fifteen years, she has been creating small objects and art jewelry with mixed media. Her work started with human-to-human relationships and has matured into capturing the process of recording & replaying the memories of the relationships.

In her practice, she seeks to visualise her understanding of time as interpreted with her own personal transformations.

She is concerned with the way people accumulate memories and the different ways in which they recollect the same experience

The materiality and the process in her work suggests the various perspectives of time in her work. She uses mixed materials that portrays reminiscences of time in daily life by creating small size structures using fine permeable polyester mesh, metal, paper, leather, hide, and fiber.

It uses polyester for its weightlessness, elasticity and transparency, properties that allow delicate colour representation through overprinting and thermoforming.

The transparency, translucency, optical illusion, and colors that are created by layering the various permeable organza portrays the layers of time with recollection, recreation, and oblivion. The completed work mimics the complexity of water painting and was further enhanced by freely drawn ink lines & intentional burn marks throughout the paper materials.

We look forward to you discovering her creative universe at AUTOR 2024.
