After studying architecture, Iza Visoianu discovered contemporary jewelry step by step and ultimately decided to put her passion first. The evolution was a gradual one. She toyed with jewelry since she was 15, using various materials, as seeds, wires, threads or stones. With time, she realized that her purpose in architecture didn’t brought her as much satisfaction as she expected and, on the other hand, the jewelry work was growing more and more, so she decided to attend a jewelry course at Assamblage School of Contemporary Jewelry.
She founded her contemporary jewelry brand, Eneada, in 2010 and in 2014 co-founded snob., a luxury fashion accessories brand. The decision of working under two different brands came from the need to explore different styles but still preserving a strong brand identity. While Eneada creations feature a classical and graceful approch, snob. collections are the result of designer’s more minimalist and avant-garde point of view.
What are the main concepts translated through your work?
Anarchy and stringency. These are contrasting concepts that mingle and complete each other. I am pretty strict in what concerns transforming my values in the form of my jewellery, but, at the same time I am a rebel towards rules and the system trends. I could probably narrow it down to the concept of freedom, or the search for it.
What material would you like to get to work with but haven’t had the chance yet?
I started to explore the technique of varnishing. I think this is a material that perfectly fits my style and would be a good addition to the materials I am currently using: wood or porcelain, bringing them more colour.
How would you describe the person wearing your jewellery?
It’s very snobbish, for sure, but as I see this quality it means it’s a pretentious person, always improving, firm believer in his / her own values, needs and beliefs. As a common belief, snobbish people are privileged by the others. I think we must see things with our own filter.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
I don’t pay too much attention to advice, probably because of my anarchic side, but my more rigorous side made me learn from the indirect advicee I got from he people I admire and from whom I like to steal life lessons.
If you were to be a piece of jewellery, what would you be?
Because of my zodiac sign and of my contrasting nature, I think I would be a pair of different earrings that together create a balanced ensemble.
