We are beyond thankful to over 3.000 people that chose to visit AUTOR during 6-7 May and thus confirm that our Fair is not only an important event for the contemporary jewelry universe of designers, admirers, and owners, but also a destination to meet the new, the amazing and the unique the curators of the fair choose for them every single year for the past 14 years.
We have been beyond happy to receive 60 amazing designers to our anniversary edition this year, and we are beyond grateful to each and every one that confided their art in our fair and in the awesome public in Bucharest that lined up to see and enrich their own jewelry collections with our designers’ pieces.
As art creators and curators for a lifetime, we, the team of AUTOR, feel like we are part of the communities the contemporary jewelers have created around them with their collections. Their communities become our communities and the way we observe, appreciate and value our designers’ art has at its core the respect and appreciation for them, as they are the only ones validating art.
Nevertheless, the truth of art is in the eye of the beholder. In all its subjectivity, the artist materializes her or his emotions through metaphors that best express those emotions. As observers of jewelry art lovers and owners for so many years, from so many people coming from so many cultures, we know for a fact that symbols tell different stories to different people and resonate with them according to their own life stories and feelings.
More often than not, the artist’s story is more than a piece – it is a collection. And as such, the collection in its entirety reveals the meaning of the artist’s vision. While being fully aware of the importance and impact of the prizes AUTOR is offering to its designers every year, the curators of these awards are always choosing the winners based on the collections they are bringing to the fair and on the way the story they are telling resonates with the innermost struggles of the human soul. And here are our winners for this edition:
- AUTOR Awesome Award – Ela Nord from Austria
- Contemporania Fair Award – Taibe Palacio from Chile
- Alchimia School Award – Mădălina Spiridon from Romania
- Public Choice Award – Wenyin Jiang from China/UK
- Universus Gallery Award – Taibe Palacios from Chile
- AUTOR Magazine Award – INTO2INTO from Russia/Belgium
- DORO-16 Gallery Award – Cleopatra Cosuleț from România
As a universal platform for contemporary jewelry, we have the deepest and utmost respect for all humankind across the world, for their struggles and for their suffering.
We strongly believe that there should not be degrees of comparison between types of sorrow and pain, as for each and every individual his or her pain feels like the heaviest and most unbearable struggle in the world. In the same time, we strongly believe in the universal freedom of the individual to interpret art as it resonates to his or her unique emotional experience and perception of the world.
We apologize deeply and most respectfully to each and every individual that might have been affected by the way art presented at AUTOR this year has been perceived – this has never been and will never be our intention. We are here, keeping our arms open as we always did towards our artists and their communities worldwide, while forever believing in the freedom of each individual’s interpretation of their art as an universal value of a free society for all.
